Do you do matching shirts????

I admit, when I saw them on people, I did think they were kinda corny. But my daughter begged to do the tie-dye Mickey ones. I caved. And then decided to do two for each member of our family, since the kit did like 20 shirts. One would be a rainbow Mickey, the other a red and green Mickey, to take a pic in and use for our Christmas cards.

But then my crafty mind wandered and thought of some other ideas for matching shirts, by cutting out a shape on a t-shirt and sewing fabric behind. Like say, the shape of Lightning McQueen, then sewing lightning fabric or Cars fabric behind it. I shared my idea with hubby, for use on another trip, and that snowballed into making 4 more shirts for each member of our family...one for each park with it's icon.

Yay...we were THAT family.

But, I have to say, it was really fun and we got lots of compliments on them. (Which my hubby totally loved!) It was easy to find each other. And easy for outfit planning each morning.

So here are some pics of our shirts! Please keep in mind I am not a seamstress what-so-ever. I just happen to know how to run a sewing machine.

The rainbow tie-dye:

these were kind of a pain, but they did come out pretty good. here is the link I followed when I made them: click here! This is the spiral design, which I prefer, but you can just as easily do the concentric circles one. This video does a pretty good job a showing you how to do it.

The red and green tie-dye:

Magic Kingdom, this one was the biggest pain:

Hollywood Studios:

Epcot:

And Animal Kingdom, which were my fav:

  1. Brandon would not do matching shirts---he won't even order the same dinner as me even if he is dying for such item. I would match with my kid(s) though and let Brandon look like the loser who wouldn't "follow the crowd." I do not see us going to Disney much as both of us do not like rides and are so impatient with lines. Also being that I work in a school I can only go when everyone else does. But I do look forward to reading your blog to learn more about what Disney has to offer for people who do not like rides.

  2. Most of the rides aren't really rides....it's basically a story that you are part of. many of the attractions are little cars or a boat that really don;t do much beside transport you through the story. that's why the rides are so great for families with kids of all ages.

  3. I love this blog! Of course, I work at Hollywood Studios in PhotoPass, so what's not to love. It's strange, but I vaguely remember seeing shirts similar to this when I was working in the viewing station. Maybe I saw your family!

Thanks for sharing the Disney love!

  4. I am so NOT 'that person' (and I loved that you put it that way) but I LOVE love love the mickey tye dyes. I am resisting the urge to make my own for my upcoming mother-daughter trip. I know my mom would love them. Is that enough of an excuse to do it???

  5. LOL!!!!!! I swore I would never be "that" person either...but I did like the tie dye ones...and the rest...well.....it kinda just snowballed after that!! I don't think we'll do as many shirts again....quite honestly, I'm not really a t-shirt kind of gal. The only reason we did these was because it was cooler and i knew I'd be wearing jeans and long sleeve tees. In warmer weather, I'm usually in skirts and tanks and little sweaters if it's chilly! :)

If your mom would like it, I saw go for it....it's only one shirt!! The rainbow ones come out the best, in my opinion!!

    1. I'm planning trip 14! Lol! Basically I printed a basic silouette off the internet, cut it out, and used it as a stencil. I cut out the shape from the front of the shirt then sewed a fun fabric behind (with a sewing machine) following the line of the cut out. Some were easier than others. That castle was a HUGE pain!! Lol
