Dining Reviews: Animal Kingdom

Flame Tree BBQ
We've eaten here plenty of times. In our opinion, it is the best counter meal in Animal Kingdom. And we love BBQ! I had the pulled pork sandwich and enjoyed it. The meal used to come with corn on the cob, but I was fine with the fact that it no longer does. It was always too over-cooked for my liking anyway. But the beans were tasty! The best part of eating here is all the seating. If you walk a little ways behind the restaurant, you find all kinds of quiet seating, over-looking the water and Expedition Everest. Very relaxing!

The decor inside is very cute!! Love it! Hubby and I both ordered the Hot Italian Sandwich, with ham, melted cheese, tomatoes, pesto, and instead of lettuce, Caesar salad. We really enjoyed the sandwiches!

Pongu Pongu
Such a fun little snack and beverage stand in Pandora! I had the Mo'Ara Margarita and a Pongu Lumpia. The margarita was tasty, but I could have done without the boba balls. The Lumpia was very good! Warm and crispy with pineapple cream inside.

It's real cute inside! I ordered the Bacon Cheeseburger, which was good. While Disney's counter service burgers do not compare to burgers at sit-down places, they are far better than a Burger King or McDonald's burger. And once in a while, I do crave a burger! Our daughter badly wanted chicken nuggets that day for lunch and there is no kid’s nuggets on the menu there, only an adult nugget meal. So hubby ordered that and shared them with her, and also ate the hotdog that came with her meal in a bucket. We thought that was cool. Kids got to keep the little bucket! We both had the chocolate mousse for dessert and it was okay. Not the best mousse I've ever had.

Tusker House
We really enjoyed our meal here. It's all African style food, a really great selection. I loved trying so many new things! The atmosphere isn't anything special, but it's nice. And the character interaction was good :) I was impressed because I personally witnessed a Cast Member showing a family around the buffet, pointing out which items were vegan.

My son's plate- lots of kid-friendly options.

Yak 'n Yet Counter
Hubby and I ordered two meals and decided to share: the Honey Chicken and Sweet 'n Sour Pork (which I think is no longer on the menu). Both came with white rice with the meats and sauces on top. Neither sauce appealed to our taste buds and we didn't finish them. Thanks goodness we had some dessert to fill us- standard issue Disney World counter service chocolate cake, which we do enjoy. Our daughter had the kids eggroll meal with fried rice and while she ate the rice and some of our chicken, I ate the egg roll since she didn't like it. It was probably the best part of the entire meal (aside from the cake!) Yeah...won't be going back, unless they make some changes to the menu.
